Anyone advertising and receiving payment for providing reflexology in North Dakota must be licensed in ND. This includes anyone working in a North Dakota spa, massage therapy office, salon, chiropractic office, etc. that advertises for reflexology and receives payment for reflexology services. Anyone who practices without a license can be reported by the public to local law enforcement and may face a class B misdemeanor charge. The Board recommends asking to see the license of the person you are receiving reflexology from, and is not responsible for anyone practicing reflexology without a license.
It is recommended that you contact Richelle Presser at seechells@hotmail.com or call 701.220.9049 if you have any questions about what will or will not be counted before taking any class or paying any money to make certain the Board will accept the hours of training. Generally speaking, educational programs for reflexology must have hands-on training, such as the training available through the International Institute of Reflexology and should have instructors and programs that meet guidelines that will be recognized and accepted by the American Reflexology Certification Board, and/or the Reflexology Association of America. The ND Reflexology Board may also independently award CEU credit, but those credits may or may not be recognized by the ARCB or RAA.
A minimum of 100 hours of preparation is required for licensure, which also includes a minimum of 40 hours of hands on/in-class hours by a NDRB approved provider is mandatory. Copies of 40 documented sessions are also required (on at least 25 separate individuals). The rest of the 100 hours can be additional class hours, additional documentations, or working with a NDRB approved mentor. A ND Reflexology Study Guide is also required prior to testing, which can be obtained by contacting Sec/Treas Richelle Presser. There is a $150 fee for the study guide and application, payable to the NDRB.
Once all requirements have been met, the student would contact Sec/Treas Richelle Presser for the next step in licensure. When the reflexology student is ready to take the licensing exam, it is required to bring all documentation and copies of all transcripts from the pre-approved hands-on reflexology classes to the testing site.
Training /documentation submitted for licensure must be pre-approved by the NDRB and relate directly to reflexology to be counted. Once the required licensure guidelines have been met, additional hours related to establishing or maintaining a reflexology business, such as marketing or ethics, may be accepted for CEUs. These courses should be pre-approved by the NDRB to avoid disappointment.
The fee for the exam is $100, payable to the NDRB.
To maintain your license, you are responsible for ensuring that you have 12 approved CEU's every 3 years. The CEU's should be related to reflexology and the business of running a reflexology practice. CEU's for related services that might be used in conjunction with a reflexology session such as aromatherapy, use of supplements, essential oils, etc. do not usually count.
If you have any concerns about what will or will not be accepted, it is recommended that you contact Richelle Presser prior to taking any class or paying any money to avoid disappointment.
During the pandemic in-person classes were put on hold. There have been online webinars by some instructors that would be accepted if a certificate is given. Choose classes/presenters that are approved by the ARCB.
Some State Reflexology Associations, such as the Reflexology Association of California, have arranged webinars that may be approved. Please check with Richelle to confirm. The webinar/seminar needs to be about reflexology. The instructor needs to be a certified/licensed reflexologist who is recognized/approved by a Reflexology Board/Association, and the class is about reflexology.
Please maintain copies of the certificates received and send a list of them, along with the number of CEU's, with your renewal form. Contact Richelle Presser at 701.220.9049 or seechells@hotmail.com for assistance.
